KATHMANDU: Two young men were attacked with sharp weapons in Raptisonari, Banke district, on Saturday evening. The victims, Sandip Bisht and Sulabh Malla, both 28, were assaulted by masked individuals at a junction in Binauna, Ward No. 5. They sustained critical injuries, Bisht has deep wounds on his wrists, while Malla has severe abdominal injuries, and are currently receiving treatment in Lucknow, India.
The police have arrested four individuals, including Gyanendra Raj Oli, the chairman of the Youth Association of Nepal in Raptisonari-2, in connection with the attack. Both victims are affiliated with the Tarun Dal, close to the Nepali Congress. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though the victims identified 10-15 attackers, leading to some arrests.
The Nepal Tarun Dal has condemned the attack, with President Birendra Bahadur Shah and Secretary Binod Rijal criticizing the disruption of peace and questioning police effectiveness. They have warned that if swift legal action is not taken, they may resort to street protests.
