KATHMANDU: Early this morning, two buses carrying approximately 65 passengers went missing in the Trishuli River due to landslides in the Simaltal area along the Narayanghat-Mugling road section in Chitwan district. Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav confirmed the incident, stating that one bus, Ganapati Deluxe, heading to Gaur from Kathmandu with 41 passengers, and another bus, Angel Deluxe, en route to Kathmandu from Birgunj with 24 passengers, fell into the river at around 3:30 AM.
Teams are clearing the debris from the landslide and gathering more information about the incident as part of the ongoing rescue operations. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the prime minister, expressed regret at the buses' disappearance and promptly ordered intensive search and rescue operations.
The PM emphasized the urgency of the situation as nearly five dozen passengers were affected by the landslide incident. He urged relevant agencies to conduct thorough and effective operations to locate and rescue those missing.
Additionally, Prime Minister Dahal sent his condolences for the loss of life as well as the harm brought about by landslides and floods in different areas of Nepal. In addition to pleading for coordinated efforts from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments to efficiently handle catastrophes and reduce risks, he called on the public to take the appropriate measures during unfavorable weather.
