KATHMANDU: The Benighat-Arughat road in Gorkha district has been rendered impassable due to damage caused by flooding that destroyed a diversion bridge over the Jadul river. According to Narayan Shrestha, Ward Chair of Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality-7, the recently constructed diversion connecting Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality-7 and Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-9 was washed away by floodwaters. This has resulted in a complete halt to traffic along this crucial road section.
The diversion bridge, built just last year, suffered significant damage as floodwaters swept away parts of the walls on both sides. This destruction has severely disrupted transportation, particularly affecting passenger vehicles commuting between Kathmandu and Arkhet via Benighat.
Efforts to restore traffic flow on the Benighat-Arughat road are likely underway, with local authorities and transportation officials assessing the damage and planning necessary repairs to reopen the route.
