KATHMANDU: The construction of the Metropolitan Ring Road in Bharatpur is approaching completion, with 90% of the work finalized. This significant infrastructure project, which spans 88.6 kilometers, is a joint effort funded by the Bharatpur Metropolitan City, federal, and provincial governments, with an investment exceeding Rs 1.50 billion. The road traverses key areas of the metropolis, including the buffer zone and community forests, and links up with major routes such as the East-West Highway and the Narayangadh-Muglin Road.

The collaborative character of the project, involving many authorities such as the Provincial Infrastructure Office and the federal Division Road Office, was emphasized by Bharatpur Mayor Renu Dahal. The road is seven meters wide and asphalted in other portions, albeit it narrows slightly in protected areas due to environmental constraints. Mayor Dahal described the initiative as an example of federal cooperation and underlined its contribution to improving local living standards, tourism, and economic activity.

The final 4.1 kilometers of blacktopping are pending, with bids already called and a Rs 100 million budget allocated by the federal government. Engineer Sakar Lama noted that the completed ring road will improve connectivity between rural areas and Bharatpur, and its proximity to major hotels in West Chitwan is expected to benefit the tourism sector significantly.
