KATHMANDU: In the past year, the museum within the Indreshwar temple complex in Panauti has attracted 3,500 foreign tourists, marking a significant increase in visitation. This museum is the only one in the district and has recorded its highest number of visitors in recent years.
Previously, the museum had seen 4,000 visitors in the last fiscal year, including both domestic and international tourists. Established about 15 years ago, the museum showcases a range of artifacts including old coins, paper currency, household items, sculptures from the Malla and Shah periods, woodwork, costumes, and ancient weapons.
The Panauti municipality office is currently working towards having the town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which could further boost the museum's visibility and visitor numbers.
