KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has initiated an investigation into the grenade explosion in Dandagaon, Phalelung Rural Municipality-5, Panchthar district, which resulted in the deaths of two children, Prinsa Sanwa (2) and Dipson Sanwa (11). The grenade detonated at the house of Aitaraj Kerung on Thursday.

In addition to the fatalities, two other children, Pawan Rai (10) and Dipson Rai (7), sustained injuries. The NHRC's Koshi Provincial Office has begun monitoring the situation. The commission suspects that the explosion might be linked to unexploded ordnance from past Maoist conflict periods and has reiterated its call for the removal of such hazards.

In order to hold those guilty accountable, guarantee that the injured receive free and appropriate medical care, and compensate the impacted families, the NHRC has mandated a comprehensive and unbiased investigation. In order to stop such disasters from happening again, it has also pushed the government to address the problem of unexploded munitions and put preventive measures in place.
