KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has received permission to resume the expansion of pavements at New Road, a bustling area in the capital city. Initially halted by the Division Road Office of Kathmandu, the pavement works were interrupted shortly after they began. However, a division bench of judges at the High Court in Patan, comprising Dhruba Raj Nand and Prakash Kharel, issued an interim order on Sunday in favor of KMC.
The KMC had initiated the pavement expansion project on May 24 after selecting a contractor through a bidding process. However, the Road Division Office intervened the following day, instructing KMC to cease the expansion. Subsequently, when the Road Division Office persisted in its directive to halt the project, KMC filed a writ petition with the High Court in Patan on June 9, seeking permission to proceed with the pavement expansion.
With the interim order from the High Court now in effect, KMC has been granted the authority to continue its planned expansion of the footpath at New Road, addressing the legal dispute and enabling the project to move forward as originally intended.
