KATHMANDU: A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchok and surrounding areas on Tuesday morning, with its epicenter at Shikharpur. The tremor, detected by the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center at 6:11 a.m., was also felt in Kathmandu Valley. Fortunately, there have been no initial reports of property damage or casualties.

Nepal, located on the tectonic boundary between the Tibetan and Indian plates, is prone to earthquakes as a result of the plates' constant pressure as they move toward each other. The country is especially sensitive to earthquakes, ranking 11th in the globe. This seismic activity is similar to the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2015, which killed around 9,000 people.
