KATHMANDU: The Seti River Hydro Power Project in Machhapuchre Rural Municipality, Kaski district, has commenced its wet test phase. This critical stage involves filling the system with water and rotating the turbine, marking a significant step towards the project’s completion. The test includes channeling water from the dam site through the penstock pipe to the turbine, a procedure conducted after the dry test.
The project, promoted by Vision Lumbini Energy Company, is a 25-megawatt run-of-river type facility. Water from the Seti River will flow through a 6,400-meter underground tunnel and drop from a height of 187 meters to generate electricity using twin turbines with capacities of 12.5 megawatts each. Trial production of electricity is expected to begin within two weeks.
Local support has been substantial, with local residents investing in the project. Of the Rs 5 billion total investment, over Rs 3.5 billion was provided by banks and financial institutions, with the remainder coming from promoters, local residents, and an IPO. The generated electricity will be connected to the national grid.
