KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology is predicting a rise in monsoon activity, beginning today. The MFD issued a special weather statement on Thursday evening, warning the public to prepare and take essential measures as rain is predicted to get worse.
According to the MFD, the monsoon in Nepal will increase in the coming days as a low-pressure line forms in the north of the country. Meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar said that the weather will shift nationwide beginning Friday, with mild to moderate rainfall likely and severe rains probable in some areas.
Due to the effect of monsoon air, mild to moderate rain is predicted for various sections of the nation from now until June 30. In certain parts of Gandaki Province, several sites in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and one or two locations in Madhesh and Karnali Provinces, there is an expectation of heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The advisory also mentions that there could be a chance of significant rainfall in a few locations in the provinces of Lumbini and Gandaki. Due to the chances of thunder and lightning, heavy rain, soil erosion, landslides, floods in urban and lowland regions, rising water levels in rivers and streams, and potential interruptions to everyday life, road traffic, and air travel from today through Sunday, MFD authorities have recommended alertness.
