Iran Encourages Residents to Reduce Water Use Due to Severe Scarcity

Iran is currently facing a very serious water crisis. This problem is getting worse because of extremely high temperatures that have affected the country for several days. In some areas, the temperature has reached more than 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit), making it one of the hottest weeks Iran has ever experienced.

Because of this situation, the government and water officials are asking people to save water as much as they can. The water shortage is especially severe in the southern parts of the country. Even the capital city, Tehran, is having significant issues with its water supply.

Over the years, a lot of water has been taken from underground sources such as wells and aquifers. These sources are now drying up. Many experts say that the government has not handled water resources well. For example, too much water is usedDue to changes in the global climate, Iran is receiving less rain and experiencing more frequent droughts. This means that water sources like rivers, lakes, and dams are not being refilled naturally.

In response to the crisis, the Tehran Provincial Water Management Company has asked people to reduce their water use by at least 20 percent. To help control the situation, the water pressure in many neighborhoods has been lowered. Some areas in Tehran are even experiencing water cuts that last between 12 to 18 hours a day.

The situation is very serious because the water reservoirs that feed Tehran’s dams are at their lowest levels in 100 years. This means there is very little water stored for future use.

Mehdi Chamran, the chairman of the Tehran City Council, said that all citizens must help by using less water. “We have to protect our water sources,” he said. “If we don’t act now, the problem will only get worse.”

The government has also said it is trying to improve the situation by making long-term plans. These include:

- Fixing old and broken water pipes to stop leaks

- Using better irrigation systems in agriculture to save water

- Building desalination plants to turn seawater into drinking water

- Educating the public about water conservation

Officials are asking everyone to make simple changes in their daily life to save water. These include:

- Taking shorter showers

- Turning off taps while brushing teeth or washing dishes

- Not washing cars or driveways with clean drinking water

- Fixing any leaking taps or toilets at home

- Using water-saving devices wherever possible
