KATHMANDU: Following his inauguration by the President, Pradeep Paudel, who was recently appointed as the Minister for Health and Population in Nepal, did not hesitate to set about carrying out his duties. He arrived at the Ministry at Ramshahpath right away. Shortly after taking office, Minister Paudel made a vow to the media that he would strengthen and streamline the integrated health system in order to increase the number of people in Nepal who have health insurance. He highlighted the urgency of addressing cancer prevention and control, given its significant impact on many Nepalis.
"I am here to work diligently. Moving forward, I will seek essential guidance from experts. My primary goal is to reinforce the integrated health system," Minister Paudel stated, emphasizing his intent to deliver high-quality health services promptly.
Pradeep Paudel, a longtime activist and organizer, was born on March 27, 1975, in the Tanahun district of Shuklagandaki Municipality-8. His active involvement with the Nepal Students Union, the student branch of the Nepali Congress, was crucial to the 1990 movement that aimed to restore democracy in the country. Paudel promoted educational changes while serving as president of the Free Students Union at Amrit Science Campus in 2053 BS and then rising to the position of central President of the Nepal Students Union in 2064 BS.
Paudel holds a Master's degree in Sociology and is a central committee member of the Nepali Congress. His political journey led to his election as a Member of the House of Representatives from Kathmandu constituency-5 in the 2022 parliamentary elections. His commitment to democratic ideals saw him arrested and imprisoned during his involvement in the Second People's Movement against direct royal rule in 2006/07.
