Dhulikhel named Nepal’s first ‘healthy city’ by WHO

KATHMANDU: Dhulikhel, a tourist destination in Kavrepalanchowk, has been named the second healthiest city in Asia and the first "healthy city" in Nepal by the World Health Organization (WHO). Meeting the WHO's health standards and achieving notable progress in environmental enhancements, health policy reforms, and the availability of healthcare for underprivileged populations earns oneself a $5,000 award for this title.


Dhulikhel earned this status by achieving a score of 65.48, following extensive evaluations of its health sector policies, sustainable development goals, and progress in managing chronic and communicable diseases. Pune City Banda in India was named the healthiest city in Asia, with Dhulikhel being ranked second.


Mayor Ashok Kumar Byanju expressed pride in the city’s achievement and the recognition of its efforts in improving community health and primary healthcare services. This accolade highlights Dhulikhel's commitment to enhancing public health and achieving sustainable development in the local government’s health initiatives.
