KATHMANDU: The National Public Health Laboratory, Teku has confirmed three people from Kalimati, Kathmandu to be infected with cholera. They are being treated at the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital. The Health Office in Kathmandu has sent out a team to find where the cholera outbreak first occurred and has taken the initiative to prevent further spread.
Previously, seven instances of cholera were reported in a detention center in Lalitpur, perhaps due to contaminated water from monsoon rains. The recent cholera cases occurred immediately after polio was found in Teku. To prevent the sickness, health experts emphasize the need to keep good hygiene, drink clean water, and practice basic sanitation. Symptoms of cholera include diarrhea, nausea, dehydration, yellow urine, and sunken eyes, all of which can be fatal if not treated.
