KATHMANDU: Two more people in Lalitpur have had their cases of cholera confirmed, bringing the district's total number of cases to 26. The two new patients being treated at Kist Medical College are an 86-year-old Satdobato woman and a 45-year-old Dhobighat man. For the past two weeks, the virus, which has afflicted 37 individuals worldwide, has been expanding in Lalitpur.
Despite claims of consuming safe water, such as boiled or bottled water, initial investigations suggest that the cholera might have been contracted through contaminated food or poor personal hygiene. Geeta Acharya from the District Public Health Office indicated that contamination might have occurred from fruits, salads, or kitchen water, particularly due to recent rains.
Dr. Bhuwan Paudel of the District Health Office noted that tap water used in kitchens has become contaminated, potentially contributing to the spread. He advised using only boiled water for drinking and recommended washing fruits and salads with boiled or purified water to prevent further infections.
