KATHMANDU: During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, Dr. Damodar Poudel and Dr. Sanju Mahato were actively providing essential medical services to local communities, particularly those of Nepali origin. Their efforts played a significant role in helping numerous Nepalis overcome the virus.
As the United States faced challenges in vaccinating its population, Dr. Poudel turned his attention to alleviating the pandemic's impact in Nepal. He initiated lobbying efforts with US authorities to send COVID-19 vaccines to Nepal, collaborating with political leaders to raise awareness about the issue.
Dr. Poudel's advocacy proved successful, leading to attention from US officials and ultimately resulting in the provision of vaccines to Nepal during a critical time. His and Dr. Mahato's contributions were recognized by various entities, including the City of Reynoldsburg and Senator Sherrod Brown's office.
Originally from Kathmandu, Dr. Poudel pursued his medical education in Nepal before moving to Ohio, where he has been practicing for over two decades. He specializes in obesity management and primary care psychiatry, providing free services to economically disadvantaged Nepali patients.
