KATHMANDU: In their most recent report, "Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal," the Nepal Rastra Bank documented a significant rise in the sum of money that Nepali students are spending on overseas education. From NPR 100.42 billion to NPR 125.13 billion in the fiscal year 2023–2024, the cost of education abroad rose.
The study also shows that, compared to NPR 144.52 billion the year before, travel-related payments climbed by 31.1 percent to NPR 189.43 billion. Despite this increase in travel expenses, the net services income showed an improved deficit of NPR 55.86 billion, down from NPR 79.89 billion in the previous fiscal year.
Over the evaluation period, travel income under the service account increased significantly by 32.1 percent, from NPR 62.3 billion to NPR 82.33 billion. This suggests that, notwithstanding general economic conditions, there is a positive trend in financial inflows associated with tourism.
