KATHMANDU: A 20-year-old lady called Rina Devi Rai was discovered dead in Mahottari under strange circumstances. On May 1, Rina, a resident of Ramoul in Jaleshwar Municipality's Ward 8, was married. Her family has claimed that because of her inadequate dowry, her in-laws killed her. They claimed that Rina passed away on the evening of Tuesday, August 20, and blame Rohan Kumar Raut and his family for her demise.

According to Rina's family, Rina's in-laws initially told the authorities that Rina passed away unexpectedly from a medical condition. Her body was discovered on the house's porch when the police arrived. The police claim that Rohan transported Rina to the Regional Hospital in Jaleshwar when she became ill after supper, whereupon she was declared dead. Then he returned home with her corpse. However, Rina's family suspected foul play after noticing bruising on her neck and bleeding from her mouth.

After visiting her parents' house, Rina had just returned to her in-laws' place. For an autopsy, her body has been taken to the Regional Hospital in Janakpur. Rina suffered because of her husband's and his family's constant demands for more dowry, according to her father Nawal Rai, even though the couple spent Rs 1.5 million on the wedding, including costs for jewelry, clothes, and utensils.
