Chairman and 3 others arrested for embezzling Rs 942.3 million from Lalitpur Cooperative

KATHMANDU: Four individuals, including the Chairman of Agriculture Development Multipurpose Cooperative located in Kumaripati, Lalitpur, have been arrested by the Valley Crime Investigation Office. They are accused of embezzling Rs 942.3 million from the cooperative. The suspects were apprehended and presented to the public today.

The arrested individuals include Tej Bikram Thapa, who served as the Chairman of the cooperative, Sajna Rajkarnikar, the manager, and Bhimsen Maharjan and Sanjay Sapkota, both members of the cooperative. The arrests come after complaints were filed by 566 depositors against these individuals.

Furthermore, the cooperative was subjected to investigation under the Terms of Reference (ToR) of a parliamentary investigation committee formed specifically to probe cases of cooperative fraud. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to address financial irregularities and protect the interests of depositors and members of such cooperatives.
