KATHMANDU: This morning, expedition organizers reported the recovery of a Mongolian climber's body near the south summit of Mount Everest, while another climber remains missing. Lakpa Sherpa, the Expedition Director at 8K Expeditions, disclosed that rescuers located the body of Usukhjargal Tsedendamba at approximately 8,550 meters. According to Sherpa, it appears that the climber fell from the rope and became stuck a few meters below the South Summit. Rescuers safely placed his body there and plan to coordinate further actions with the victim's family at the conclusion of the climbing season.
Usukhjargal Tsedendamba and Prevsuren Lkhagvajav went missing above the South Col while attempting a summit push on May 12. In response, Nepali climbers were swiftly mobilized to search for the missing climbers. Pechhumbe Sherpa, MingNurbu Sherpa, Arjun Karki, and Lanka Ram Tamang were among those involved in the rescue mission. Despite these efforts, the fate of Prevsuren remains unknown at this time.
As the next summit window is expected to open after May 19, search efforts will continue for the missing climber. Sherpa emphasized that the search for Prevsuren will persist alongside ongoing rescue initiatives, ensuring that no stone is left unturned in the quest to locate the missing climber and provide closure for their loved ones.
