KATHMANDU: Over the past ten months, the Annapurna circuit has attracted a remarkable 177,182 foreign tourists, making it a sought-after trekking destination. The highest influx occurred during Chaitra (March-April), with 35,265 tourists visiting the area. Dr. Rabin Kadariya, Annapurna Conservation Area Project's (ACAP's) head, disclosed that of these visitors, 79,232 were from South Asian countries, while 97,950 came from other nations. The months of September-October and April-May are considered ideal for trekking in the region.

The Annapurna region, spanning Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, Myagdi, and Mustang, boasts diverse biodiversity, breathtaking mountain views, and a rich cultural heritage. Dr. Kadariya expressed optimism about tourism rebounding to pre-COVID-19 levels, noting a significant increase in tourists from third countries. ACAP focuses on tracking foreign tourists along the Annapurna circuit trekking route.

While the Annapurna circuit remains popular among global tourists, accurately assessing the number of domestic tourists arriving from Mustang and nearby areas via surface routes presents a challenge. In 2023, a record high of 191,558 tourists from 173 countries explored the Annapurna region, surpassing the previous record of 181,000 visitors in 2019. Notable destinations such as Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, and Tilicho Lake continue to attract millions of visitors annually.

Renowned for its scenic landscapes, pleasant climate, and warm hospitality, the Annapurna circuit is celebrated as one of the world's premier trekking destinations. Trekking options of varying lengths are available across Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, and Myagdi, spanning the expansive 7,600 square kilometers of the Annapurna Conservation Area.
