KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah and City Police Chief Raju Nath Pandey, along with Metropolitan Police Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Lamichhane, face charges of assault and robbery filed in the Kathmandu District Court. Padam Prasad Pokharel, Editor-in-Chief of Pranmanch.com, lodged the case on Thursday, alleging that the defendants assaulted him during the arrest of sidewalk vendors in Sundhara on February 28.
The case, filed under section 191(3) of the National Civil Code, seeks three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 for the assault inflicted upon Pokharel. Additionally, under section 286(3) concerning robbery, the petitioner demands compensation for goods and damages totaling Rs 344,117. Chandra Prasad Panthi, the information officer at the Kathmandu District Court, confirmed these details.
In his petition, Editor-in-Chief Pokharel asserts that he was physically assaulted and that his camera and other communication devices were damaged during the arrest operation conducted by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The legal proceedings will now unfold as the court deliberates on the matter and examines the evidence presented by both parties involved in the case.
