KATHMANDU: On Sunday, approximately 60 houses in Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, located in Myagdi district, experienced damage as a result of high-speed electricity supply. The affected settlements include Odare, Bhuwanithan, Bhunya, Idar, and Birauta in the Ghar area. Ram Bahadur Khadka, the ward chair, reported that the excessive power supply led to damage to various household items, including meter boxes, televisions, computers, refrigerators, mobile phones, laptops, and other electrical equipment installed in the local houses.
Jit Bahadur Baruwal's shop in Bhunya Tole was particularly affected, incurring a loss exceeding one million rupees due to the fire caused by the incident. A team comprising people's representatives and ward police has conducted an assessment of the damage to approximately 60 houses. The fire damaged five mills and a meter box within the residences, resulting in minor injuries to five individuals due to electrocution. One person requiring medical attention was subsequently transported to Beni Hospital for treatment.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Beni Distribution Centre has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the short circuit, which resulted in the high-speed electricity supply and subsequent damage to the houses and properties in the affected area.
