KATHMANDU: The Karnali Highway has been completely blocked due to continuous heavy rain, causing severe disruptions. According to Bir Bahadur JT, Information Officer at the Road Division Office in Jumla, landslides have obstructed the Surkhet-Jumla road section since Wednesday morning. The persistent rain has led to frequent landslides in several areas, including Dahikhola, Gagnekhola, Ismode, and Hulme within the Kalikot section of the highway.
Efforts are underway to clear the road and restore access as quickly as possible. However, the damage caused by both floods and landslides has made the task challenging. The road's closure has stranded hundreds of passengers, with vehicles traveling from Jumla and Mugu to Surkhet, Nepalganj, and Kathmandu halted.
Due to poor road upkeep and renovations in these dangerous regions, Karnali residents have long faced challenges. The circumstance emphasizes how difficult it continues to be to manage the region's transportation infrastructure, particularly during the monsoon season.
