KATHMANDU: According to the speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' will seek a vote of confidence today. Dahal offered a request for a vote of confidence in line with Article 100, Clause 2 of the Constitution, during a House meeting held for this exact purpose on July 12.
PM Dahal is now facing a lack of support after the CPN-UML withdrew their support. PM Dahal needs 138 votes in the 275-member HoR to secure confidence. PM Dahal now has just 63 votes, including 32 from the Maoist Center, 21 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and 10 from the Unified Socialist Party.
The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, which have established a new coalition, have urged their MPs not to back PM Dahal. The RPP, Janata Samajwadi Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, and other parties have also chosen not to support Dahal in the vote of confidence.
Furthermore, the Janamat Party, spokesperson Dr. Sharadsingh Yadav, stated that their meeting ended with a resolution not to support PM Dahal. The party has six representatives in the HoR.
