KATHMANDU: To develop the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Inquiry into Disappearances, leadership of Nepal's three major political parties have agreed to establish a "Search Committee." The prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar hosted a meeting on Thursday to make this decision.

Sher Bahadur Deuba, the head of the Nepali Congress, Attorney General Ramesh Badal, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Shakti Bahadur Basnet, the chairman of the Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', were among the notable guests of the meeting. Debating how urgently these committees should address historical injustices was the aim of the discussions.

The Prime Minister's Secretariat has scheduled a cabinet meeting for tomorrow (Friday) to ratify the makeup of the recently proposed search committee. The formation of the TRC and the Commission of Inquiry will depend on this committee.

The establishment of these commissions is seen as a significant step in addressing problems related to disappearances and violations of human rights, indicating the government's commitment to justice and healing for the affected individuals and communities.
