KATHMANDU: The Bangladesh Power Development Board has now officially extended an invitation to Nepal for the signing of a trade deal for the purchase of 40MW of electricity. The invitation letter was sent to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Once signed the two countries will also be able to have a contract that permits Bangladesh to buy electricity produced in Nepal only during the monsoon periods, which is six months a year. NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising has informed that all formalities in this regard have been finalized and exporting of electricity is expected to start within the current year.
According to this proposed arrangement, Nepal will sell power at an initial capacity of 40 MW generated from June 15 to November 15 of every year for the next five years. Per the projections made by the NEA, the organization expects to generate about 6.40 cents per unit of electricity exported during this period
