NEPSE Index declines 0.99% as broad-based sell-off hits most sectors

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index saw a decrease of 26.07 points, or 0.99%, as it finished today at 2,597.49 points. Class 'A' stock performance is measured by the Sensitive Index, which fell by 0.87% reflecting this downward trend. Furthermore, there was a 0.91% decline in the Float Index, which tracks shares that are actively traded.


15.19 million shares were exchanged during 83,081 transactions involving 310 distinct scrips, resulting in a total turnover of Rs 6.77 billion for the day. Significantly, the exchange's trading activity was reflected in the daily turnover, which was reported at Rs 7.616 billion.


Three Star Hydropower Limited (TSHL) saw a notable rise of 10% among individual stocks. Wean Nepal Laghu Bitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (WNLB), on the other hand, suffered a 10% loss. In total, the stock prices of 54 firms increased, 186 decreased, and 3 were unchanged.


The Development Bank Index experienced a decline of 1.38%, and the Banking SubIndex saw a decline of 0.71%. The only industry to move positively was the Finance Index, which increased by 1.75%.


In addition to the Hydropower Index's 1.74% decline, the Hotels and Tourism Index closed lower by 1.79%. In a similar vein, the Investment Index saw a 1.52% decrease. There was a 0.40% decline in the Life Insurance Index and a 1.79% decline in the Manufacturing and Processing Index.


The Microfinance Index ended 1.12% lower and the Mutual Fund Index dropped by 0.41%. Furthermore, the Non-Life Insurance Index experienced a 1.82% decline, while the Others Index saw a 0.03% reduction. Additionally, the Trading Index saw a 1.18% decrease.


With the exception of the Finance Index, which witnessed increases, most market sectors saw significant drops today. The majority of sectors had negative closing prices, indicating a broad pessimism in the market.


With a total market capitalization of Rs 4.13 trillion, all listed companies on the exchange were valued together. Despite the day's falls, this statistic highlights the market's size.
