Medicinal herb exports from Kakarbhitta exceed Rs 80 million in FY 2023/24

KATHMANDU: In the fiscal year 2023/24, exports of medicinal herbs through the eastern border point at Kakarbhitta amounted to approximately Rs 81.14 million. The Quarantine Office in Kakarbhitta reported the export of various forest products, including Chiraito, Reetha, Majitho (Rubia Cordifolia), Berberis Aristata, gooseberry (Amala), and Sati Bayar. Chiraito was the major export, with 160 metric tons worth Rs 48.6 million coming mostly from Taplejung, Panchthar, Illam, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, and Bhojpur.


In addition, 83 metric tons of Majitho were shipped for Rs 16.52 million, 151 tons of Reetha for Rs 9.694 million, 11 tons of gooseberry (Amala) for Rs 1.134 million, and 24 tons of Berberis Aristata for Rs 1.2 million. The total value of these exports exceeded Rs 80 million.
