KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Probe Committee, tasked with investigating the alleged misappropriation of cooperative funds, has taken concrete steps by deciding to request documents from nine different cooperative organizations. Surya Bahadur Thapa, the committee's coordinator, announced that they will be sending letters to these cooperatives to provide relevant documentation concerning loans issued to the Gorkha Media Network.
The cooperatives from which the committee seeks documents include Ideal Yamuna Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd, Image Saving and Credit Co-operative Ltd, Samanata Saving and Credit Cooperative Ltd, Sahar Nepal Saving & Credit Co-operative Society Ltd, Sano Paila Saving & Credit Ltd, Suryadarshan Saving & Credit, Sumeru Saving & Credit Co-operative Ltd, and Swarnalaxmi Saving & Credit Co-operative Ltd.
The formation of this committee came about due to persistent allegations from the Nepali Congress party, which had been obstructing parliamentary proceedings. They alleged that Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, during his tenure as managing director of Gorkha Media Network, had misused funds from these cooperatives.
The committee's initiative marks a significant step towards investigating these allegations thoroughly, aiming to gather necessary evidence and documentation to ascertain the truth behind the accusations leveled against Minister Lamichhane.
