KATHMANDU: Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has announced that the authorities have identified the whereabouts of GB Rai, who is wanted in connection with a cooperative fraud case. Speaking to journalists in Chitwan on Thursday, Lamichhane revealed that ongoing discussions with the Malaysian Home Minister have played a crucial role in this development, although diplomatic efforts have caused some delays.

Lamichhane confirmed, "We have already determined GB Rai’s location. I have received confirmation from the Malaysian Home Minister." However, he explained that the process of bringing Rai back to Nepal has encountered delays due to the absence of an extradition treaty with Malaysia. Despite these challenges, Lamichhane emphasized that significant progress has been made through extensive efforts and diplomatic engagements.

Responding to comparisons between Rai’s case and that of Rajkimar Chepang, who was involved in rhinoceros smuggling, Lamichhane highlighted the unique legal considerations and bilateral understandings involved in each case. He assured the public, "Nevertheless, we have pinpointed his location and are actively pursuing further actions." Lamichhane's remarks indicate ongoing efforts by authorities to address Rai's case and ensure accountability in matters of fraud and criminal activity.
