KATHMANDU: Construction work on bridges along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section is progressing rapidly, aiming to have them operational by mid-November. Currently, out of the total 15 bridges in this section, 11 are already in use, while construction is ongoing for the remaining four. According to Krishna Acharya, the engineer of the Western Section of Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project, only the Khahare, Namche, Kalikhola, and Tuin Khola bridges near Muglin Bazaar are yet to be completed.
Efforts are being made to bring two of these bridges into operation by mid-July, with specific challenges identified for each. For instance, constructing an access road for the Khahare rivulet bridge requires raising a high wall, adding complexity to the construction process. Meanwhile, the Tuin Khola bridge is expected to be completed by mid-November, with ongoing work including cutting the nearby wall and providing compensation to affected individuals in Khahare.
Overall, there are 19 bridges along this road section, all constructed with financial assistance from the World Bank. Delays in bridge construction have been attributed to various factors, including the need to address specific challenges such as wall cutting near the Tuin rivulet and distributing compensation to affected individuals in Khahare. Despite these challenges, improvements in road and bridge infrastructure have mitigated the impact of recurring landslides during the rainy season, making travel along this section relatively smoother.
