KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) resumed operations two hours after the earlier today crash of a Saurya Air aircraft. Flights both domestic and international have returned back to normal, the general manager of the airport Jagannath Niraula confirmed.
The event occurred at 11:11 a.m. when the Saurya Air flight heading for Pokhara crashed during takeoff. Following the disaster, all aircraft operations were temporarily suspended. The jet, carrying 19 persons, including crew members, went off the runway and landed in a ditch.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) reports that 18 out of the 19 people on board have been officially declared deceased. Manish Ratna Shakya, the airplane captain, was saved and is receiving medical attention at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal at this time.
