KATHMANDUA Kenyan climber, Cheruiyot Kirui, who went missing near the summit of Mt. Everest, has been found dead a few meters below the summit point, according to base camp officials. Rescuers from Seven Summit Treks discovered his body, but the whereabouts of his Sherpa guide, Nawang Sherpa, remain unknown. Kirui, who attempted to scale Everest without supplemental oxygen, lost contact near Bishop Rock, where Nawang last communicated that Kirui exhibited abnormal behavior and refused to return or use bottled oxygen.

Efforts are ongoing to locate Nawang Sherpa, with climbers on a summit push today actively searching for him. Earlier this week, two climbers, Daniel Paul Peterson from the UK and Pas Tenji Sherpa from Makalu, fell near the Hillary Step after a section of the route collapsed. Additionally, Gabriel Tabara from Romania was found dead inside his tent at Camp III on Tuesday.

Tragically, other recent fatalities on Everest include Mongolian climbers Usukhjargal Tsedendamba and Prevsuren Lkhagvajav, who died above 8,500 meters while descending from the summit on May 13. These incidents highlight the extreme dangers associated with high-altitude climbing on Everest.
