KATHMANDU: Domestic tourists to the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, which covers the districts of Rukum East, Baglung, and Myagdi, have expanded dramatically in recent years. While outsiders have long found the area to be a popular hunting destination, locals are growing increasingly interested in it.
The number of travelers to Dhorpatan increased from 7,645 in the fiscal year 2079/080 to 15,573 in the fiscal year 2080/081. In comparison to prior years, the rise is significant: domestic tourism increased from 3,020 in 2076/077 to 9,919 in 2078/79 and 6,703 in 2077/078. Better accommodation alternatives, easier access to the roads, and increased social media presence are all credited with this expansion.
The reserve now features 21 hotels and homestays, capable of accommodating up to 300 guests daily. Although primarily known for its international hunting clientele from countries like Spain, the USA, and Germany, the reserve is also welcoming more domestic tourists. Entry fees are Rs. 100 for domestic visitors, Rs. 1,500 for SAARC nationals, and Rs. 3,000 for other foreign tourists.
Covering 1,325 square kilometers, Dhorpatan is a diversified and enticing holiday destination for individuals who appreciate both hunting and the great outdoors, with 32 mammal species and 137 bird species.
