KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has chosen not to resign due to continuing political developments in Nepal. Maoist Center Secretary Devendra Paudel declared that a gathering of officebearers in Baluwatar decided to seek a vote of confidence in parliament instead.

Paudel emphasized the party's support by saying, "We have unanimously supported the Prime Minister's decision to seek a vote of confidence." Talks are scheduled to start with a number of political groups, such as the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

According to Paudel, there is little chance that the major parties will reach a compromise on building a national consensus government. The conference was called by Prime Minister Dahal to discuss the political environment in the wake of the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress' recent agreement.

Considering the difficulties in creating a new government after the alliance, several politicians had proposed that Dahal quit. However, Dahal's choice to stay in office creates the conditions for asking for parliamentary confidence. Concurrently, the CPN-UML is getting ready to pull out of the existing administration and start the process of its ministers resigning. In these conditions, PM Dahal is required by the constitution to get a vote of confidence within a month.
