KATHMANDU: Mukul Dhakal, who was recently suspended from his positions with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has asked for a probe against party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane. During a news conference on Wednesday, Dhakal called for the formation of a high-level commission to investigate claims against Lamichhane, including passport abuse and involvement in cooperative fraud.
Critically, Dhakal criticized Lamichhane for continuing as Home Minister despite facing a cooperative fraud case currently under review in the Supreme Court. He emphasized that these issues should not be handled solely within what he referred to as "Rabi's Club," stressing the need for transparent investigations conducted by the RSP itself.
Dhakal further emphasized the seriousness of the accusations by stating that Lamichhane should be permanently barred from running for office in the event that he is proven guilty of misusing his passport. These requests for a probe are made in the midst of increased internal RSP tensions spurred on by Dhakal's suspension, which has highlighted internal disputes and accusations of wrongdoing within the party hierarchy.
