KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, during his address to the joint session of the Federal Parliament, outlined the core objectives, priorities, strategies, and transformative initiatives of the upcoming fiscal year 2024/25 budget.
Pun emphasized the importance of presenting a clear path for the nation's future and articulated five key objectives. These include amplifying production, productivity, and employment opportunities, fostering private sector confidence, stimulating investments, cultivating human resources for sustainable development, mitigating economic disparities and poverty through equitable resource allocation, and enhancing efficiency in public service delivery.
Additionally, the Finance Minister highlighted five strategic priorities, which entail spearheading economic reforms and bolstering private sector advancement, prioritizing sectors such as agriculture, energy, information technology, tourism, industrial growth, and infrastructure development, strengthening the social fabric with investments in education and healthcare, ensuring inclusivity and social welfare through robust social security measures, and elevating governance standards and refining public service delivery mechanisms.
Furthermore, Pun delineated five economic reform strategies aimed at implementing structural reforms for systemic enhancement, fostering a conducive business environment to spur growth and innovation, revamping the public finance system for fiscal stability and transparency, undertaking comprehensive reforms in the financial sector to bolster resilience, and modernizing public administration for efficiency and effectiveness.
Lastly, the Finance Minister highlighted five transformative sectors, including the agricultural sector for sustainable growth, the energy sector towards self-sufficiency and innovation, advancements in information technology to drive digital transformation, tourism as a key driver of economic prosperity, and entrepreneurship and industrial development for economic diversification.
