KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has withdrawn its support from the Bagmati Province government, prompting UML ministers to submit their resignations to Chief Minister Shalikram Jammakattel on Monday.

This decision comes amid a shifting political landscape at the center, leaving the CPN-Maoist-led Bagmati government in a minority position. The UML ministers resigned with the aim to destabilize the current government and potentially form a new alliance with the Nepali Congress to align with the central framework.

In response to the UML’s withdrawal, Chief Minister Jammakattel, now facing a minority status, announced his intention to seek a vote of confidence in the House. He acknowledged the resignations of the UML ministers with regret, acknowledging the inherent unpredictability of politics.

The UML ministers who resigned include Economic Affairs and Planning Minister Jagannath Thapaliya, Irrigation Minister Ekalal Shrestha, Health Minister Rameshwar Shrestha, Forest and Environment Minister Keshav Prasad Pokharel, and Industry, Commerce, Land, and Administration Minister Prakash Shrestha.
