KATHMANDU: The recently appointed chief minister of the Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama, is scheduled to request a vote of confidence on July 30. He has formally requested the Provincial Assembly Secretariat in Hetauda to schedule this vote on that date.
As per the guidelines of the CPN-UML, Lama, who assumed office on July 23, must secure a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly within 30 days. The parliamentary meeting for this purpose has been scheduled by Province Assembly Speaker Bhuwan Kumar Pathak at 3 PM on July 30. Lama will seek a vote in accordance with Article 168(4) of the Nepal Constitution and Article 143(1) of the Province Assembly Regulations, 2074 BS.
64 provincial assembly members, including 37 members of the Nepali Congress and 27 members of the UML, support Chief Minister Lama. For the first time, the UML has taken over as the party's leader from the Nepali Congress. Lama has also finalized his 14-member council of ministers as of Saturday.
