KATHMANDU: The Nepali Embassy in Brazil is getting ready to offer essential humanitarian support to the 176 Nepali nationals who became trapped in the transit area of Sao Paulo Airport in Brazil. All of them are safe. The embassy explained that it is primarily concerned with helping the Nepali nationals who are currently affected, despite news reports suggesting that some 700 foreigners, including Nepalis, were trapped.
The incident is representative of a larger pattern of people from South American nations, including Brazil, attempting to enter the United States without authorization. Organized human trafficking networks have caused great misery and monetary loss to a large number of young people in Nepal.
The Brazilian government responded to this problem by enacting new laws that mandate entry into Brazil for passport holders from a number of nations, including Nepal. As of right now, Nepali travelers are not allowed to enter Brazil without the required paperwork; those who do so will be returned on the same aircraft and will not be allowed to board the airport as refugees.
The Nepali Embassy has issued a press statement addressing these changes and emphasizing its readiness to support Nepali nationals stranded in Brazil while highlighting the need for awareness about the new visa requirements and the risks of illegal migration.
