KATHMANDU: Bagmati Province is projected to lead the contribution to Nepal's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with Karnali Province at the lowest end. According to the Provincial GDP Estimates for the fiscal year 2080/81 BS released by the National Statistics Office on Wednesday, Bagmati Province is expected to contribute 36.4 percent to the nation's GDP.
Following Bagmati Province, Koshi Province is estimated to contribute 15.8 percent, Lumbini 14.3 percent, Madhesh 13.1 percent, Gandaki 9.1 percent, and Sudurpaschim 7.1 percent. Karnali Province has the smallest GDP share, contributing only 4.3 percent.
Compared to the revised estimates for the fiscal year 2079/80, there are minor alterations in the provinces' GDP contributions. The contributions from Koshi, Madhesh, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces have marginally decreased, while the other provinces are expected to see a slight increase.
The GDP at consumer price for the current fiscal year 2080/81 is estimated at Rs 575 billion. Since the implementation of federalism, the National Statistics Office has been monitoring economic activities and producing data to support evidence-based policymaking and reduce socioeconomic disparities.
