KATHMANDU: A passenger bus on the Mugling-Narayanghat road in Bharatpur Metropolitan Municipality, Chitwan, was involved in an accident today after being struck by rolling boulders. The boulders hit the bus (Ga 2 Kha 47), which was en route from Gaur in Rautahat to Pokhara, around 1:50 PM. The impact caused the driver to lose control, leading the bus to overturn, as reported by Mugling Police Chief Inspector Nirla Bhandari.
25 people were hurt in the collision; nine of them received medical attention at Bharatpur Hospital, eight at Old Medical College, and eight at Chitwan Medical College. There are two injured people in critical condition. The boulders caused serious damage to the bus, which was carrying about 35 passengers.
The overturned bus remains at the accident site, but traffic has resumed on the road. There has been a disturbing trend in the area with this tragedy; on July 12, a driver was killed by a boulder on the same road segment, and on the same day, 62 people died in a landslide in Simaltal when two buses were carried away.
