KATHMANDU: Two individuals have tragically lost their lives after being swept away by the swollen Rama River, which straddles the border between Musikot Municipality-6 and Ward-7 of Rukum (West) district. The victims were identified as 32-year-old Nirmala KC Thapa of Musikot Municipality-6 and 50-year-old Sarjhan Pun of Ward-4.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening while the two were traveling on a motorcycle (Ra 6 Pa 2961) from Kanebang to Sankha. Nirmala KC Thapa was riding the motorcycle when the river, swollen by recent rains, overpowered them.
Police found and recovered their bodies on Monday morning. Whereas Nirmala's body was located some 300 meters downstream, partly buried by landslides, Sarjhan Pun's body was found around 20 meters downstream from where the motorcycle had been stranded.
For post-mortem exams, the bodies have been brought to the District Hospital in Salle. To return the bodies to the relatives, arrangements are being made by the authorities.
This event serves as a reminder of the risks associated with overflowing rivers and the necessity of exercising caution when bad weather is present.
