Monsoon flooding has caused damage exceeds 100 million and claimed 78 lives

KATHMANDU: Continuous rains in Nepal have caused disastrous floods and landslides, killing 78 people and generating economic losses of more than Rs 100 million. According to the Police Headquarters, these disasters have also left 90 individuals injured and five others missing since June 10.


The impact of the floods and landslides extends beyond human casualties, with 381 cattle perishing and substantial damage reported to infrastructure. Nearly 600 houses have been displaced, 98 cowsheds destroyed, and one school along with two government office buildings damaged. Additionally, 41 bridges have been swept away, 161 houses submerged, and 116 ropanis of land buried under debris.


To manage the crisis, authorities have mobilized 5,041 police personnel for disaster response efforts. The overall number of disaster-related occurrences has risen to 1,028, reflecting the scope and severity of the continuing natural disasters, which have been worsened by persistent rains across the country.
