KATHMANDU: The ongoing heatwave has severely impacted the lives of people in Banke and several other districts. Tragically, two individuals have lost their lives as a result of the extreme temperatures. One of the victims, Topendra Sunar, a gold trader from Khajura Rural Municipality, succumbed to the heat after fainting while riding his motorbike to work. Despite efforts by locals and the police to rush him to a hospital, Sunar was pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending doctor.
Similarly, Kailash Giri, aged 104 and residing at the Nilsagar Ashram in Nepalgunj, also fell victim to the excessive heat. According to Ashram Operator Sarita Khanal, Giri passed away due to the extreme temperatures, with doctors confirming his death upon arrival at Bheri Hospital. The scorching conditions have been prevalent in Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, and Kanchanpur districts, exacerbating the challenges faced by local communities.
Residents across the affected regions have voiced their grievances, citing the debilitating effects of the heatwave on their daily lives. Medical professionals have reported a surge in health issues such as diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, skin problems, allergies, viral infections, and instances of fainting due to the persistent high temperatures. As the heatwave persists, authorities and communities are urged to take proactive measures to mitigate its adverse effects and ensure the well-being of vulnerable individuals.
