KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy rains have caused widespread floods and landslides, causing considerable damage throughout Bhaktapur district. In response, the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal No. 22 Guheshwari Battalion, stationed in Duwakot, Bhaktapur, has been actively participating in rescue efforts. On July 10, the increasing flow of water in the Manohara River threatened residences near Rai Tole in Duwakot, Changunarayan Municipality 1. To mitigate this risk, the APF constructed a flood barrier using sandbags and wire mesh. Superintendent Basudev Lohani, Commander of No 22 Guheshwari Battalion, provided details of these efforts.
Similarly, in Changunarayan Municipality-4, as the Manohara River began damaging nearby settlements, the APF collaborated with local residents to construct an embankment for protection. Earlier, on July 8, the APF successfully cleared a blocked road in Changunarayan Municipality-6, Nagarkot, caused by a landslide. Additionally, a landslide on the road from Nagarkot to Sankhu via Kattike Bhanjyang resulted in damage to the Sereni Resort building in the vicinity.
The APF's actions demonstrate its proactive approach to resolving the immediate issues brought by floods and landslides in Bhaktapur district. These efforts have been critical in protecting communities and infrastructure from further harm at this time of increased natural disaster activity.
