KATHMANDU: Upendra Yadav is on the verge of reclaiming his position as Chairman of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal as the ongoing party convention progresses. Insider sources indicate that Yadav has garnered substantial support from party members for his reelection to the top leadership position.
The ongoing convention is set to elect a 201-member central committee along with 20 office bearers, as outlined by Manish Suman, the spokesperson of JSP Nepal. The leadership structure of the party will comprise key positions such as Chairman, Assistant Vice Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretaries, Deputy General Secretaries, Secretaries, and Treasurer.
Former lawmaker Raj Kumar Sharma, who recently defected from the CPN (Maoist Center) to join JSP Nepal, has thrown his hat into the ring for the position of General Secretary. Meanwhile, Raj Kishor Yadav and Lal Babu Raut are competing for the role of Assistant Vice Chairman, adding further intrigue to the convention proceedings.
Despite facing a split, the party continues to maintain a presence in the House of Representatives (HoR) with five lawmakers representing its interests. This ongoing political transition within JSP Nepal underscores the dynamic landscape of Nepalese politics and the evolving power dynamics within the party.
