KATHMANDU: Party leader Mukul Dhakal should be suspended from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on the recommendation of the party's disciplinary panel. As the RSP's general secretary and spokesperson, Dr. Dhakal was suspended as a result of a decision reached late on Wednesday during the party's central committee meeting. The seven-day punishment was put in place as a result of breaking party rules and discipline.
Subsequent to the suspension, the party has instructed the disciplinary commission to undertake further actions against Dhakal. The RSP is currently conducting its central committee meeting to deliberate and finalize the commission's recommendation.
A lack of responsibility for several party issues, including a cooperative case, and unfair targeting by party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane have been cited by Dhakal, who has openly denounced Lamichhane, have escalated tensions inside the party. Dhakal and his followers were on one side of the dispute, while Lamichhane and other core members were on the other. The argument intensified when Dhakal's desire to produce a report was turned down.
