KATHMANDU: On Sunday morning, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had a meeting with Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is the President of the Nepali Congress (NC) and the leader of the main opposition party. The meeting was conducted ahead of the parliamentary session that is scheduled to pass the government’s policies and programs.
The Prime Minister’s secretariat stated that the meeting aimed to build political consensus between the ruling and opposition parties and resolve the parliamentary deadlock. Concurrently, key NC leaders were holding discussions at Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha since early Sunday morning.
PM Dahal also convened a meeting with key leaders from various parties. For the past month, the Nepali Congress has been obstructing parliamentary sessions, demanding a parliamentary probe committee to investigate Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane's involvement in a cooperative fraud case.
Although the government and opposition parties agreed to form a probe committee, they have yet to agree on the Terms of Reference for the panel. Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress is also organizing a street protest in the capital against the government and the cooperative fraud.
